One MILLION Things

A lot of things have caught my eyeballs in the past...24 hours or so. Let's just start with the most recent and work our way backwards! PS - I just found a folder on my computer named "Things I Like" and another called "Pretty," both of which were chock full of images. You'll be seeing some of them today, and some of them at a later date.

1/ Keds Collective and Amy Ormond

 Keds Collective is a collaboration between Keds and designers, artists and musicians and the results are pretty effin great.

2/ One Minute Portraits by Benjamin Hammond

The image kinda says it all.

3/ The Original Penguin

Tiny bit in love with these ultra preppy clothes. And the name is cute.

4/ The Glue Society

The Glue Society is a collective that does art and advertising, and other stuff too. The image is an example of one of their sculptures. Look closely, you can see that guy's junk.

5/ Freakishly adorable dishware by Finding Cheska

Again, the image says it all, but visit the website for more well-designed homewares.

6/ Words (FFFFOUND!)

Ffffound has about 50 of these bad pictures with words over them. Some of them are real dumb, but some are nice.

7/ Better words (still FFFFOUND!)

Ffffound also has some good things. Like these.

8/ Michelbergerhotel

This is one from my long list of bookmarks. It's the exterior of the Michelbergerhotel in Berlin. It's a pretty happening place, I've heard, and the interior's sweet as well.

9/ Food: I like food a lot, and these are my two current favorite things (besides, obviously, toasted baguette sandwiches with hummus and tomato).

9/1 Black Silk

The first is Folger's Black Silk coffee, which is black as night and I like it.

9/2 15 Grain Bread

The second is Pepperidge Farm's 15 grain bread; this bread is awesome and I'll tell you why. When I buy bread, I always have to decide, do I want some hearty whole grain bread that will have more calories and fat but be more satisfying? Or do I want the lighter loaf that is fewer calories but ultimately less satisfying? This is the PERFECT blend of the two. It's light on cals and fat but feels hearty. I'm clearly in love.

10/ Gilt Group and Thomas Paul

Gilt Group is a member's only sale website and one of their current sales is Thomas Paul who does some fantastic things with textiles.

One MILLION/ Perfect Job at Urban Outfitters

Found my perfect job, Women's Print and Artwork Designer, at Urban Outfitter's. Requirements include forecasting fashion trends, researching print and art trend directions, shop and observe street fashion and rework artwork into prints for the UO customer. Plus it may require some overseas travel...bonus. PS - love those brogues.

Today I went shopping for supplies to make my own headbands. Wednesday Lulu and I are going to be trying our best to actually make them; we'll see how that goes. I mean, obvi it will be fabulous...unless we eff it up. Then it'll just be funny.

Do Work

This summer, my work schedule is sporadic to say the least, and to keep myself busy I've decided to start entering design competitions, even if they're small unimportant ones. 

The first of my conquests is going to be the cover of GD USA who is looking for a cover which will showcase the capabilities of Kodak's new dimensional digital printing. If you're interested in entering one yourself, you can find more information here.

I've started on this project, but am basically no where near close to finishing, but I will fo sho show you guys my progress as I go.

The second project I intend to complete is a GOOD doodle. GOOD magazine is starting a monthly project centering around doodles and this month the theme is a day without technology. I haven't started this one yet, but some day in the near future I will be going without my phone (and probably computer) for A WHOLE 24 HOURS. And then I will doodle about it, or more likely I will doodle during, as I will have nothing else to do.

Ok, this isn't something I'm entering, just some results I really really like. TfL (Transport for London) recently held a contest for the new design of London's iconic skyline, and to the left is the winner. You can read all about the contest and winner in this month's Creative Review and you can visit the winner's website here (it's rul nice). The skyline will be used on TONS of merchandise for TfL, for example...coffee mugs! I obviously want one.

Hey Stranger

Yeah yeah, it's been awhile. 
Get over it and look at what I've got to share.

You know what I like? Not babies, that's what.

This line of Play Condoms designed by Ben Marsch (very nice website BTW) and Julia Roach are rul cute. And everyone knows that cute things work better than ugly ones, just like cute people are smarter and nicer than ugly people. 

You know what else is nice? Strange (but also clever) ways to sneak alcohol into places they don't want you to have alcohol. 

I mean it smacks of alcoholism, but this nice little pack can carry SIX mini-bottles, and look how cute it is when paired with heels and a dress...just kidding, that's gross.

I also love London, not sure if you know, as well as design (deh). 

In September, London will play host to the London Design Festival...and this year, the Anti-Design Festival as well. Ch-ch-ch-check it out. Rage against the man.

This may be less exciting to the non-designers out there, but Mind The Gap is a digital project designed to give "buckets of advice" to young creatives. The creators interview professionals and get three tidbits of advice and then publish them online. It's very inspirational, and I like it. Also, the design is nice, which is always a plus.

And now for a little fashion:

These little ditties come from Camilla's Babylon collection, and they are pretty smokin. Esp when it's so hot you can't (won't) wear pants. Flowy dresses are much better for ventilation.

P.S. More Booze

So, just after publishing that last post, I went to the website of Stranger & Stranger (behind The Waxed Bat design) to check them out, and I discovered that 1. They're pretty great and 2. They are a packaging design and branding company that SPECIALIZES IN ALCOHOL! So, Stranger, can I have a job (in like 10 months) can I have it? But more urgent than my employment, check out their other stuff.

Not only are their designs good, but they're pretty hilarious too. They also often create new bottle and secondary packaging for the brands they work with. Love.

Boooooooze!

Recently, a some friends (Chelsie and Sydney) and I took a little journey to a nice little liquor store by the name of Friar Tuck's. Friar Tuck's has a VERY nice selection of booze, and we spent a good 30 minutes perusing their beer selection (I'm not a fan of beer, so I spent my time seeking out ciders) and I realized how awesome the labels and packaging is for a LOT of alcohol! Booze and good design, some of my favorite things. Following is a selection of my faves.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of gin, but I do really like these labels for 9 Lives Gin, designed by Christopher de Hoog, student at RMIT University in Australia.

Rogue also has some nicely designed labels for their different brews, my personal favorite being the Mom Hefeweizen.
